Washington State Begins Enforcing New Gun Background Check Law

Washington has begun enforcing Initiative 594, a law which expands the use of background checks to cover virtually all gun sales, including private and online sales. This makes all gun buyers go through the same process regardless of where they buy a gun.

The type of check being conducted—the FBI’s National Instant search—is far from comprehensive but at least now it’s consistently applied, which may serve as a deterrent to criminals.
